SATURDAY
Prettiest Eyes
3:50 to 4:30 AM, Block Stage
No, that’s not a typo. Yes, Prettiest Eyes will return to Desert Daze for a super-late 3:50 AM set. The LA-based trio is a phenomenon that must be experienced live to be believed. Their unconventional punk style eschews guitars for a bass-keys-drums setup for their bedlam, and singing-drumming-crowd-surfing frontman Pachy Garcia will give the crowd that much-needed burst of energy to make it through sunrise.
Cat Scan
4:15 to 4:45 PM, The Theatre
Cat Scan recently had a residency at The Echo, and despite catching two of the shows, I still felt the FOMO from not being able to catch the other two. Consider it a testament to the cathartic power of Cat Scan’s raucous dance punk, which will leave the Saturday afternoon crowd breathless and sweaty as the quartet storms through their sonic onslaught in fast-forward.
Stonefield
3:15 to 3:45 PM, The Theatre
One must wonder if Desert Daze is low-key a sister city to a town in the land down under. Australia is well-represented on the lineup thanks to not just King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Tame Impala (plus affiliated projects Pond, and GUM) and Stonefield. The quartet of sisters dropped their third album Far From Home earlier this year, and its old school stoner rock tunes should prove a great soundtrack to Saturday afternoon groove-outs.
