HAIM played a fantastic sold-out gig at their hometown venue the Greek Theatre on Thursday night, and they made it incredibly special.
The sister trio from the Valley moved to the middle of the Greek Theatre by the soundboard and played a stripped down version of Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down” in tribute of the late singer, who passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. Watch it below:
HAIM have usually played sets just over an hour at previous headline shows, but this one was different. They sold out the Greek Theatre in less than a day and played nearly two full hours to show support for many longtime fans. Celebrities were everywhere — Rashida Jones, Joaquin Phoenix, Ryan Adams, and Maya Rudolph were among some that were spotted.
The band even brought out a strings section to close out their set, it was incredible. Easily the best HAIM show I’ve ever seen, and Thursday night marked my 12th time seeing them. They even threw in their cover of Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much”. Watch HAIM play “Night So Long” from the Greek Theatre below:
Also, after the show Este Haim gave me like five hugs — she’s fucking awesome just like the other two. Can’t wait to see them slay the festival circuit again next year!
