Warpaint has shared a new video for their “New Song” – and it’s just as fun and light as the track.
It’s the first single from the soon-to-be-released third album Heads Up (out September 23 via Rough Trade). The video follows this frenetic foursome around New York as they dance along to the track.
Warpaint has always delivered entertaining and pleasant music videos and they didn’t stray from that with this one. I was shocked to read in an interview with Noisey that they nearly broke up before recording tracks for the record. They always seem to be having the most fun anyone has ever had. But it’s understandable how wearing a long tour can be.
The track is one of their more poppy tunes they’ve ever released and it suggests a shift in sound. I’ve heard the album and promise it’s packed full of whimsical and ethereal tunes you’ve come to know them for. But it also features a more beat-driven sound that puts drummer Stella Mozgawa and bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg at the forefront. We can’t wait for the new record to be fully unleashed in just a little more than a week. It builds on the critical success of their self-titled second record from 2014. We can only hope a run of festival appearances is ahead of them for 2017.
I can’t wait to hear “New Song” and other new tracks performed live. If you’re in SoCal, you can check them out next weekend at the inaugural Music Tastes Good Festival in downtown Long Beach (read about the other acts playing here). They have an hour-long set time Saturday, September 24 from 7:20 PM to 8:20 PM. You’ll find me dancing along to them there, as well as at their show at the Fonda Theatre on Thursday, October 13. So get your tickets to both those shows ASAP.
