Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have joined forces for one of the most intriguing collaborations in recent memory, and they’ve just dropped the video for the lead single.
“Over Everything” is the first track we’ve heard from their upcoming full-length record Lotta Sea Lice. The song features Barnett and Vile in black-and-white, mouthing the words to the other member’s vocals. Barnett and Vile make a perfect match, as both employ a brainy brand of songwriting. The rhythm of the verses in “Over Everything” sounds like that big Moldy Peaches song from the movie Juno.
Barnett and Vile’s backing band is an acclaimed cast of characters, from Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa to Mick Turner and Jim White of The Dirty Three.
Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile will bring their side project to Southern California a number of times. They have a sold-out gig at the beautiful Cathedral Sanctuary at Immanuel Presbyterian in Koreatown on October 14. There are still tickets to see them perform at the Orpheum Theatre the following day, October 15. If you’re headed to Desert Daze that same weekend, they play Friday, October 13 before their two LA gigs.
