U.S. Girls may be the project of Meghan Remy, but as a live show the project is brought to life by a full band. Fans at the El Rey Theatre got a heavy dose of electropop.
Playing mostly from her 2018 masterpiece record In a Poem Unlimited, Remy’s brand of art pop wowed and enticed the crowd. There’s a striking similarity for Remy to the singing style of Charlotte Gainsbourg, who happened to be at the Fonda Theatre that same night. It’s a provocative whisper that draws you in while the instrumentation collapses around it. There’s also a bit of Tennis to their sound.
