It had been nearly four years since The Kills played Los Angeles — but Monday and Tuesday that changed as Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince made a triumphant return to the city at The Mayan in downtown LA.
The set started the way most do for The Kills. Alison Mosshart pacing the stage like a bull looking to gore someone, Hince riffing on his guitar as Mosshart moves like someone trying to find their keys as they’re already late for something.
There are few people that have Big Rockstar Energy the way Mosshart and Hince do. They just released a deluxe edition of their sophomore record No Wow from 2005 and played a couple of songs “Love is a Deserter” and “Rodeo Town” from that record. Ash & Ice favorites of mine “Doing It To Death” and “Hard Habit to Break” made the cut. The latter had a false start that received a bunch of cheers before they played the song correctly.
It was an action-packed show and I can’t wait to see what’s next from the duo.
