Report: FYF Fest 2018 to take place after AEG buyout

Nobody seemed to know whether or not FYF Fest 2018 was happening this year after disturbing allegations made against FYF Fest founder Sean Carlson surfaced in November of last year. But it looks like we will have a festival after all.

Billboard reported Friday that Carlson was bought out by AEG (which owns concert and festival promoter Goldenvoice) and they will move ahead with this year’s festival.  The three-day event will now be booked by Goldenvoice’s Jennifer Yacoubian, who has worked for the company since 2009 and books the Shrine Auditorium, Splash House festival series in Palm Springs, as well as the El Rey Theatre. FYF Fest co-producer Dave Peterson will remain part of the process, Billboard added.

Carlson built FYF Fest from the ground up beginning in 2004 as a teenager and with Goldenvoice’s help it became the coolest music festival in Los Angeles by leaps and bounds. As more and more indie and left-of-center bookings disappear from the Coachella lineup, FYF Fest has become a haven for those who call the Indio festival too mainstream and past its prime.

FYF Fest 2017 took place in July and saw Frank Ocean, Missy Elliott, Bjork, Nine Inch Nails, Iggy Pop, and A Tribe Called Quest among the top billed acts.
