Goldenvoice festival Smokin Grooves 2019 proved that the hip-hop and R&B-leaning festival can be a future staple in Long Beach for years to come this past Saturday.
The second-year festival saw headline performances from Erykah Badu and Usher, with a variety of old and new favorites up and down the rest of the bill. Queen Mary Events Park continues to be a boon for Goldenvoice as they’ve brought at least a half-dozen successful fests to the space over the last few years.
Badu was the only return act from last year’s inaugural festival. The genre is popping off these days well enough that Goldenvoice should be able to turn it over from year to year without problem. Though this one didn’t quite sell out as fast as year one, it still got there eventually.
Other favorites from Smokin Grooves 2019 included Kali Uchis, T-Pain, Common, Daniel Caesar, Ella Mai, and Raveena.
