Wednesday, a select few were lucky to see Perfume Genius perform a set at No Name — thanks to W Hotels.
One of the songs Perfume Genius played at the intimate Hollywood bar was a cover of Bobby Darin’s “Not For Me”. On Monday, that song got an actual release. The song also has a new video, directed by lead singer Mike Hadreas. Hadreas’ vocals are haunting. Give it a watch and listen below:
The W Hotels recently launched their latest initiative W Records. W Records partners with musicians and helps facilitate every part of the process, from recording space to video shoot locations to vinyl production. But best of all, W Records helps the artists support a cause both are stoked on. In this case, all proceeds from the streaming royalties of Perfume Genius’ two W Records songs benefits Immigration Equality. The organization helps people around the world who are fleeing persecution due to their sexual orientation.
I was lucky enough to get to see Perfume Genius at No Name on Wednesday, and indulge on the open bar that accompanied the night. The performance was surprisingly intimate. Also in attendance were actresses Dakota Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz, as well as singer BANKS among others.
The other song released as part of this 7″ single was “Alan (rework)”. Both tracks were laid down at the W Sound Suite Seattle, which is Hadreas’ hometown. W Records “will release 500 copies of limited-edition vinyl sent to DJs, tastemakers, and music-loving SPG/Marriott Rewards members,” per a press release.
