Laura Pergolizzi better known as LP performed at the Greek Theatre on Saturday night. Opening the show was Nick Leng. Not only has LP been a successful solo artist having six albums and three EPs, she has written songs for Cher, the Backstreet Boys, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and Celine Dion. LP is a native of Long Island, NY and is of Italian descent. LP’s appearance at SXSW (2006) led to her being sought after by multiple major record labels and ultimately signed with L.A. Reid to Island Def Jam Music Group under Universal Music Group. Soon after LP would move to SoBe Entertainment in 2007 and the song “Love Will You Keep You Up All Night,” written with Billy Mann was on the Backstreet Boys album Unbreakable.
In 2010, LP signed with RedOne’s label 2011 Records and found major success co-writing Rihanna’s hit “Cheers (Drink to That). LP went on to perform at SXSW again as well as London’s Hyde Park, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo. LP has released albums on Koch, Lightswitch, Warner Bros, Vagrant, BMG, and PIAS. Since 2007 LP has released over 15 singles and is credited to over 30 songs recorded by other artists. LP’s most recent album Churches was released this past December.
LP played a total of 20 songs opening with “When We Touch” which started with the band playing in lowlight followed by LP coming out from the back of the stage playing a ukulele. LP certainly has one of the most distinct voices of the century. The show continued with hits like “Strange” which was used in a 2019 Samsung Galaxy commercial, “Muddy Waters” which was featured in the Season 4 finale of Orange Is the New Black and the ending of Season 5 Episode 4 in Starz Power. LP ended the show with her biggest hit “Lost On You.” LP has tour dates booked through the end of July In Mexico,the U.K., and all over Europe then starts again August 31st in Denmark then concludes in Estonia on September 22nd.
