Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor will be performing at the intimate and cozy Hotel Cafe next week. This show comes a few days before his band reconvenes at FYF Fest.
The singer and multi-instrumentalist released an LP called Piano via Moshi Moshi (available for purchase here) and will be playing songs from that record on Aug. 24 at the Hotel Cafe. It is one of only two scheduled shows for Taylor to perform solo — the other taking place a few days earlier in New York. Piano is the second full-length album Taylor has released on his own, along with an EP.
Taylor released a video for Piano track “I Never Lock That Door” recently. The single-shot video is made with 170 custom pinhole film cameras that creates a neverending loop of Taylor tumbling through time. As far as the song goes, Taylor said it was partially inspired by Charlie Rich’s “Behind Closed Doors.”
“I wanted to write something which inverted that phrase, and to my surprise a song came out fully formed in one sitting,” Taylor said, according to a press release. “I recorded it as I wrote it — I want someone like Crystal Gayle, Sinead O’Connor or Dan Penn to sing it in an ideal world!”
Following Taylor’s show at Hotel Cafe, Hot Chip will perform at FYF Fest on Saturday, Aug. 27. The two-day festival is headlined by LCD Soundsystem, Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala and Grace Jones. It also features performances by Air, Beach House, Anohni, Grimes, Father John Misty, Explosions in the Sky and many more.
Tickets to the Hotel Cafe show are priced at $20.00 with a $4.00 service charge. The show is 21-and-over. Doors open at 7 PM.
