Francis Farewell Starlite had a pretty solid 2016 — working with the likes of Chance the Rapper, The Weeknd, Kanye West, Cashmere Cat, and several others. His own 2016 record Farewell, Starlite! made my list of 25 favorite albums of 2016. The collaboration with Bon Iver, “Friends”, was my second favorite song of 2016. He combines a voice similar to Peter Gabriel with minimalist electro-pop production in such a mesmerizing way.
He opened for Chance the Rapper on dozens of dates last year. His live show is very interesting to take in — it’s just Francis on stage, and his dance moves are pretty out there. I caught him at the Troubadour late last year, as well as opening for Chance at the Greek. He has a date at the El Rey Theatre on Wednesday, April 12 before hitting the stage at Coachella the next two weekends.
