Bay Area lo-fi rockers Day Wave will be returning to Los Angeles this summer and will have a new album in tow by the time they get here!
The project of Jackson Phillips, Day Wave will headline the El Rey Theatre on Wednesday, June 28, the second-to-last date of their tour that begins June 1. Along with the tour, it was announced that his debut full-length album The Day We Had will drop on May 5 via Harvest Records.
Day Wave’s new song “Something Here” was also debuted on Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1, along with an interview with Jackson Phillips. You can listen to that interview here, and listen to the track via Spotify at the bottom of this page. It’s a delightful track that immediately evokes memories of The Cure with its guitar intro. Phillips’ vocals are quite dreamy and his brand of power-pop is similar to that of lo-fi favorites Alvvays.
We caught Day Wave at the Troubadour this past November and they delivered big time. They also gave us memorable sets at both Shaky Knees and Treasure Island festivals this year. You can also catch them at BottleRock in Napa this May. Day Wave’s “You” was one of our 100 Favorite Songs of 2016, and he promises to make our list this year.
Tickets to the show are priced at $18.00 and go on general sale Friday, February 3 at 12 PM Pacific Time. There is an American Express pre-sale on Wednesday, February 1 starting at 10 AM PT. There is also a Goldenvoice pre-sale with the password WASTINGTIME on Thursday, February 2 beginning at 10 AM PT. Doors open at 7:30 PM with the show beginning at 8:30 PM.
