Dashboard Confessional is currently on tour, but that didn’t keep them from surprising us with some new tunes. Well, their take on some old tunes, at least.
The Chris Carraba-fronted legendary emo group dropped a four-song covers EP out of nowhere called Covered and Taped. The EP features covers of Julien Baker, Justin Bieber, The 1975, and Sorority Noise.
Hearing Carraba’s take on the Julien Baker track “Sprained Ankle” is something we never thought we’d hear. Baker is a favorite singer-songwriter of ours and Dashboard’s take is very close to the original. Their version of Bieber’s “Love Yourself” is also pretty close to the acoustic version that the Biebs plays on tour. The 1975 track “Sex” is the opener, and Sorority Noise’s “Using” closes things out. It’s quite a mix of artists that Dashboard chose to cover.
If you’re interested in seeing Dashboard Confessional in LA, they’re at The Wiltern on Saturday, February 4. Tickets to that show are currently sold out.
