Buzzy Lee is the moniker under which Sasha Spielberg is recording, and she’s shared the second song from her upcoming new EP titled “No Her” that will hit you right in the feels.
The Nicolas Jaar produced track was premiered Friday via Gorilla vs. Bear. It features the kind of sparse production that allows her incredible vocals to shine bright. The dark brooding indie pop sound lines up with what we’ve come to expect from Jaar in his own work, and this collaboration seems to be a home run. Listen to it below:
“‘No Her’ is about that piece of myself that I’m worried my partner will discover isn’t really there,” Spielberg told Gorilla vs. Bear. “That there is an ideal ‘her’; someone’s idea of me is different from who I am, and yet, I’m worried the other ‘her’ is the one who has drawn them in… But to be fully honest it’s about not believing someone loved me.”
The song comes from her debut EP titled Facepaint, which drops April 27 on Future Classic. Intrigued enough that you’re scrambling to find out when you can see her live in Los Angeles? Have no fear — she has a free show scheduled Monday, April 9 at the Silverlake venue Zebulon Cafe. Find out more information on the show here.
