Were you under a rock last weekend and missed rising Nashville singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy‘s sets opening for Phoebe Bridgers at the Constellation Room on Saturday and her Girl School 2018 set Sunday night? Did you catch either of those sets and are itching for more? Don’t worry — she’ll be back in April for a headline show in LA.
Sophie Allison is the woman behind Soccer Mommy, and drops her debut studio full-length record Clean on March 2 via Fat Possum Records. I’ve been listening to an advance copy of the record non-stop since it arrived in my inbox and it has a nostalgic ’90s sound in the vein of Berkeley twee-pop band Go Sailor, but with a more intimate feel to it.
It’s amazing how fierce the songwriting is with Allison being just 20 years of age. It’s unapologetic, as evidenced in the new record’s lead single “Your Dog”. “I don’t want to be your fucking dog,” she opens the song with, and the new video that dropped a few weeks ago has her celebrating over the corpse of her dead emotionally abusive partner.
You can catch Soccer Mommy at The Echo on Tuesday, April 10, with opening act Madeline Kinney. The show is all-ages and takes place at 8:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now and cost $10 in advance, and $12 on the day of the show.
