Since MEG MAC’s last Los Angeles area show at the Bootleg Bar three years ago, the Australian artist’s music has undergone quite the journey. After completing a new studio album in early 2020, Meg (whose real name is Megan McInerney) suffered what she herself called “a meltdown” and scrapped the entire project just two weeks before the release of the first single. Matter of Time is the fruit of the subsequent reboot & rebuild process, which included moving to a remote town in New South Wales to isolate and recuperate, before pouring her soulful voice and raw energy into recording the ten songs of emotional highs and lows that made the final cut.
Meg’s latest tour stop in Los Angeles was at The Wiltern — K-Town’s historic theatre — this past Saturday night, where she supported Mr. Jacob Banks on his current “Lies about the War” tour. Backed by a tour drummer and a multi-instrumentalist who are both based out of L.A., Meg’s opening set featured songs from the new album plus a few older favorites. With her distinctive and powerful voice, the forceful & soulful performance definitely won over some new fans in the house… as well as reassured her long-time followers that MEG MAC is back!
