Just Like Heaven returns for another day of indie rock and electro favorites from the 2000s/2010s on Saturday, May 13, 2023, Brookside at the Rose Bowl with headliner Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT playing their 2007 debut album Oracular Spectacular in full for the very first time, Future Islands, Empire of the Sun and M83 at the top of the bill. These adored bands will be joined by Hot Chip, Caribou, NYC band The Walkmen (who have recently reunited), Fever Ray, The Bravery, Peaches, Azealia Banks, Ladytron, STRFKR, Metronomy, The Faint, The Sounds, Cults, Them Jeans, Cosmic Kids, Rory Phillips, “How Long Gone” live podcast and Cinespace DJs.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs last rocked Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl in October as well as a more intimate show in May at Teragram Ballroom, where they debuted new material from 2022 album Cool It Down. They are set as headliners at this year’s upcoming Kilby Block Party in Utah and also have top billing at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Festival and Boston Calling. MGMT have not toured since 2020, playing in Southern California back in 2019 at San Diego’s Waterfront Festival. Future Islands return to the region for the first time since playing The Greek in 2021 and M83 last played in the area in 2017 at The Theatre at Ace Hotel. Empire of the Sun last played LA at The Fonda in 2019 and Hot Chip return for their first Southern California date in four years.
Following its inaugural event in 2019 at Long Beach’s Queen Mary Park with Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT, Beach House, Passion Pit, Grizzly Bear, Miike Snow, Just Like Heaven headed for Pasadena in 2022 as its new home on the golf course adjacent to the Rose Bowl. Last year’s successful one-day fest included Interpol, Modest Mouse, The Shins, M.I.A., Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Chromeo, Santigold and a lot more. Check our review of the 2022 edition here.
