The Hangout 2018 lineup dropped unexpectedly Tuesday morning — and it’s the first shoe to drop when it comes to next year’s festival season.
Headlining this year’s festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama are Kendrick Lamar, The Killers, and the Chainsmokers. This year’s festival will take place May 18 to May 20.
This year’s undercard is pretty damn solid. ODESZA is an act that has headlined some second-tier festivals in the last year, and they’re on the second line. Zedd, Portugal. The Man, Halsey, Anderson Paak & the Free Nationals, St. Vincent, SZA, Galantis, and Logic are some of the other prominently featured bands.
The deep undercard at Hangout is always pretty spectacular and this year is no different. It’s awesome to see Tash Sultana on an American festival bill as she’s become one of my favorite live performers this year. Tank and the Bangas, Noname, Alex Lahey, Sunflower Bean, and Hotel Garuda are some of the other small-print acts that should be fun to catch on the beach.
I’ve seen rumors swirling that Hangout Fest could be in jeopardy, but higher-ups involved in the festival have shut down that idea pretty thoroughly. The festival has been bothered by weather the last two years, with storms causing some of the acts cancelled completely. These things have been out of the festival’s hands.
I had a pretty good time at last year’s Hangout Fest — you can check out my Best & Worst recap of the festival, along with my travel style journal here. I’ve been the last three years, and Hangout has continued to be part of my spring festival travel plans.
