An amazing tour has just been announced featuring Courtney + Kurt. No, this isn’t 1991, but 2017. Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have a collaboration album coming this year and will tour in full support of it later this year, including two dates in Los Angeles in October.
No news on the name of the record and when it will be released, but the duo have announced a tour that includes shows at Cathedral Sanctuary at Immanuel Presbyterian on October 14, as well as a show October 15 at the Orpheum Theatre.
They will be backed by their band The Sea Lice, which includes a revolving cast of top-tier musicians, like Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa (currently my favorite drummer anywhere); Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag; Rob Laakso of The Violators, The Swirlies, and Mice Parade; and Katie Harkin, a touring member of Sleater-Kinney.
Barnett says the two kept bumping into each other on the festival circuit after scoring an opening slot for him in 2014 and the two became friends. This is exciting news as I expect their two styles of music to blend seamlessly — Barnett’s rockin’ grunge sound with Vile’s more folk-driven vibe.
Tickets to the shows go on general sale Friday, June 9 at 10 AM Pacific Time. Tickets to the Immanuel Presbyterian show are priced at $39.95. There is a LiveNation pre-sale for the Immanuel Presbyterian show beginning Wednesday, June 7 at 12 PM noon PT — password LYRIC. Doors for the Immanuel Presbyterian show open at 8 PM.
Tickets to the Orpheum show are priced from $27.50 to $37.50. Doors for the Orpheum show open at 7 PM.
