L.A. favorites Cold War Kids were on hand at the iHeartRadio Theater last Friday to perform an album release show in celebration of their new album L.A. Divine, which dropped that same day via Capitol Records.
The performance featured the native southern Californians play new songs like “Love is Mystical” and “So Tied Up” from the new record, the latter being their latest radio hit that features rising alt-pop star Bishop Briggs.
Cold War Kids singer Nathan Willett noted how he really loves powerful female voices like Nina Simone and Fiona Apple, and heard Briggs’ song “River” on the car radio and had to pull over to listen to it. He then got in touch with the singer through Twitter and managed to get her to lend her voice to the track.
The set also featured a rad cover of Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain,” further support to his point that he loves a powerful female voice. Crowd favorites like “Hang Me Up to Dry”, “First”, and “Miracle Mile” from previous records made it onto the 12-song setlist as well. People stomped their feet through all of the many anthems the band played during the show.
