Clairo charms at Fonda Theatre residency

Rapidly rising bedroom-pop artist Clairo recently completed a five-night stand at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, and Pass The Aux was fortunate enough to cover the third evening’s performance! To promote her third and newest album Charm, the singer-songwriter announced earlier in the year that she would be doing residency runs at both the Fonda in L.A. (September 6/7/8/10/11) and at Webster Hall in NYC (September 14/15/17/18/19) as a kickoff to her world tour. All five of the Los Angeles residency shows sold out immediately.

Gliding onto stage in dark brown boots and flowy custom PIATORI “Juna” purple dress, Clairo proceed to pour and serve glasses of wine to her five-piece band and herself, casually sitting and chatting with them in the center of a retro-1970’s inspired green-carpeted ‘conversation pit’ stage design. After finishing their wine and toasting the audience, the group started the evening off with “Nomad” (which also happens to be the opening track on the new album).

The artist (whose real name is Claire Cottrill) ran through a 90-minute set featuring songs from all three of her albums, ‘charming’ the young crowd with dreamy vocals and moody instrumentals before ending the show with “Bags” (a personal favorite from her debut record), “Sexy to Someone” (the single she dropped over the summer), and finally “Juna” (which she recently performed on the Tonight Show). Notably and to the disappointment of many in attendance, Clairo did not perform her mega-hit “Sofia”.  🙁
