Cat Power sings Bob Dylan at Troubadour in November

I don’t write up many announcement posts these days but this one spoke to me. Nobody has done more with the cover song than Chan Marshall, and this November she’ll recreate a memorable Bob Dylan concert back-to-back nights at the historic Troubadour. Cat Power continues to outdo herself.

Cat Power is releasing a live album of her own that was recorded November 5 of last year as a song-for-song recreation of Bob Dylan’s infamous 1966 Royal Albert Hall concert. She also performed a show at the Sydney Opera House. The concert actually took place at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in May 1966, but the bootleg was mislabeled that it became known otherwise. Cat Power’s show last November will be brought to an LA audience at the Troubadour on both Monday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 7.

“More than the work of any other songwriter, Dylan’s songs have spoken to me, and inspired me since I first began hearing them at five years old,” Marshall was quoted as saying in a press release. The live album drops Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert (via Domino) on Friday, November 10, a few days following the two LA shows.

Two songs from Cat Power’s rendition last year have already been released — “She Belongs To Me” and “Ballad Of a Thin Man”. Over a dozen Dylan classics were performed, check out the full incredible setlist below.

Tickets to see Cat Power perform Dylan at the Troubadour go on sale Friday, September 15 at 10 AM Pacific Time.
